The Last of Us is an incredible post-apocalyptic game featuring Joel and Ellie as two survivors who must make do in an unsafe and violent world. It stands as one of the most cinematic and emotionally impactful video games ever created.
The story explores the Trolley Problem — whether to sacrifice one person in order to save many — through an unexpected lens.
The Last of Us Part 1 Remastered
Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us series became an instantaneous hit when released in 2013, featuring survival horror elements coupled with cinematic storytelling and third-person gunplay. Soon thereafter, The Last of Us Part 2 set records as Game of the Year award-winner.
Now, years later, Naughty Dog is bringing its inaugural game to PS5 and offering existing owners of it an upgrade track for just $10. As well as visual upgrades and quality-of-life enhancements, this edition also adds Left Behind as a single player prequel chapter and cinematic commentary from original game director Neil Druckmann.
Remakes rarely provide much in terms of improvements, yet this one still deserves consideration by anyone who missed the original or wants to experience it once more with all its upgraded goodness. While some upgrades seem unnecessary (dated hallways for instance), overall this version provides the best experience of an already thrilling journey.
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered gives gamers an opportunity to reexperience Naughty Dog’s controversial sequel with improved graphics and technical enhancements, including unlocked frame rates for TVs that support them, enhanced texture resolutions, greater Level-of-Detail distances, higher shadow quality levels, enhanced animation sampling rates and much more.
No Return Mode, which transforms the core gameplay of the main campaign into an intense survival experience with randomized levels and enemies, provides players with another avenue for replaying the game with fresh challenges while providing insights from developer director commentary.
Sony has unveiled that their forthcoming version will come packaged in a special WLF Edition that comes complete with 47 Society of Champions trading cards, a Washington Liberation Front patch and four enamel pins modeled after items from the game. Pricing and availability details have yet to be announced; we’ll keep this article up-to-date as they emerge.
The Last of Us Part 3
Fans have long anticipated The Last of Us Part 3, having found its first two games to be highly acclaimed for their storytelling. Many want to know how Ellie will respond to choices she made during Part 2; how she deals with these choices; as well as encountering new characters who could add depth or pose moral dilemmas for Ellie.
Daniel Richtman has revealed that casting for The Last of Us Part 3 has already started. The story will focus on a group of survivors huddled together inside an old Victorian house; Val and Mason will vie for leadership of this collective; alongside Gracie, Ezra, Lucas with its dark twist; possibly hinting at more sinister developments within its narrative.
The Last of Us Part 4
Naughty Dog’s team at Naughty Dog have remained quiet on this matter while working on Intergalactic: Heretic Prophet, but some movement appears to have started taking place.
It’s hard to overstate just how breathtaking The Last of Us looked when it first launched in 2012. The camera carefully followed Joel and Ellie as they skillfully dodged perilous enemies – only for low ammo gun jams or missteps to threaten disaster! Naughty Dog and Sony should be proud that these visuals still stand up today despite games such as Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut having more realistic lighting features.
Druckmann’s statement may have been somewhat vague, but it certainly appears as though The Last of Us’ team are considering some sort of follow-up project – be it another trilogy or something more like Uncharted TV series where new characters emerge to fill a specific role within The Last of Us’ universe.
